Chad Smith talks with great enthusiasm about the prospect of 2010 and beyond with Josh Klinghoffer as the new Red Hot Chili Peppers Guitarist. MusiCares 2010 Excerpt from the Interview... Nick Arnold With this new Chili Peppers record, are you guys taking a new direction, or will you be sticking with your more recent sound? Chad Smith It is a new direction because we've got a new guitar player, Josh Klinghoffer, and he's an amazing musician, so it's obviously gonna change. But it's also gonna change because we've got a new guy in the group, and he's very talented, very musical. It's fresh, it's fun, everyone is in a good mood, everyone is coming up with lots of good ideas, and I just look forward to what the future is gonna bring. I know it's gonna be different and exciting. It just makes me really happy to get up everyday and go to rehearsals, because I know something new and cool is gonna happen, and so I'm looking for it; it's awesome. L.A.'s Roxy Theatre to Host Ron Asheton Tribute Show This January 13th, the Roxy Theatre in Los Angeles will host the Jam for Ron Asheton, the former Stooges guitarist who died last year from an apparent heart attack. Scott Asheton, Mike Watt and Steve Mackay of the Stooges are all set to perform, while other guest stars will include Jane's Addiction's Stephen Perkins and Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith. Further speculation about John Frusciante's place within the band continues to become a prominent topic of discussion amongst Red Hot Chili Peppers fans. Chad Smith revealed that he has been told NOT to answer questions about John Frusciante in a recent interview with Classic Rock Magazine. Classic Rock: So the Chilis have finally returned to work, following the 2006 double-set Stadium Arcadium. Did guitarist John Frusciante, who in recent interviews seemed to express antipathy towards doing so, take some persuading? Chad Smith: [Sounding uncomfortable]: Well… at this time I can’t talk about that. I have been told to stay away from the John questions.
