The Red Hot Chili Peppers I’m With You Tour in 2012 has been postponed to allow Anthony’s foot to heal. The rescheduled tour will begin on March 29th at the Tampa Bay Times Forum in Florida.

On January 20th, 2012, Anthony Kiedis’ mother, Peggy Noble Idema spoke to the Grand Rapids press about his injury. “All considered, he’s doing very well. He hasn’t complained at all – except he’s unable to surf!! So, keep your fingers crossed that he heals quickly. I’m hoping he settles down a bit on the stage to preserve that much needed foot. I hope the fans can accept that!”

Rocketjuice and The Moon is a funk supergroup formed in 2008. The band consists of Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Bassist Flea Michael Balzary, Damon Albarn of Blur and Gorillaz, and Tony Allen, longtime drummer and musical producer for Fela Kuti.

Rocketjuice and The Moon’s debut album includes contributions from Erykah Badu, Fatoumata Diawara, M.Anifest. Cheick Tidiane Seek and the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble.

Flea, Damon Albarn and Tony Allen spoke to MOJO Magazine in February 2012 about the album and how they came to play music together. Read the full interview here…

      

Red Hot Chili Peppers performed live for the first time on February 13th, 1983.

Originally under the moniker of Tony Flow & the Miraculously Majestic Masters of Mayhem, their first performance was to a crowd of approximately thirty people, opening for Gary Allen’s band, Gary and Neighbor’s Voices. Gary Allen was a friend of Anthony Kiedis and invited the band to open for him as he felt that Kiedis had potential as a frontman.

Hillel Slovak and Flea were initially skeptical, and felt that Kiedis did not have enough vocal experience, but the two eventually agreed to perform.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers “wrote” for the occasion, which involved the band improvising music while Anthony Kiedis rapped a poem he had written called “Out in L.A.” Since Hillel Slovak and Jack Irons were already committed to another group, What Is This?, it was intended to be a one–time performance. However, the performance was so lively that the Rhythm Lounge owner asked the band to return the following week.

Anthony Kiedis described the performance in his autobiography, Scar Tissue: “All the anticipation of the moment hit me, and I instinctively knew that the miracle of manipulating energy and tapping into an infinite source of power and harnessing it in a small space with your friends was what I had been put on this earth to do.”

Due to this unexpected success, the band changed its name to The Red Hot Chili Peppers, playing several more shows at various LA clubs and musical venues. Six songs from these initial shows were on the band’s first demo tape.

Several months after their first performance Red Hot Chili Peppers was noticed by EMI and signed with the record label. Two weeks earlier, What Is This? had also obtained a record deal but with MCA. Slovak and Irons still considered the Red Hot Chili Peppers as only a side project and so they quit to focus on What Is This? Instead of dissolving the band, Kiedis and Flea recruited new members. Cliff Martinez, a friend of Flea’s, joined shortly thereafter. Auditions for a new guitarist produced Jack Sherman.

The rest is history…

Stéphane Sednaoui is a French-American photographer, director and producer whose work includes music videos, art projects, photographic essays, portrait photography, fashion photography and photojournalism.

Sednaoui directed the music videos for Give It Away (1991), Breaking The Girl (1992), Scar Tissue (1999) and Around The World (1999). He won an MTV Video Music Award in 1992 for the Give It Away video.

Three of the photos taken during this photo shoot were used by Interview Magazine’s article on the Red Hot Chili Peppers from October, 2011. The photo of the band sitting together was also used in the booklet of the I’m With You Album. Other photos from Stéphane Sednaoui’s photo shoot have been used in various publications too.

Anthony Kiedis and David Mushegain at L.A. Lakers game on January 25th, 2012

Anthony Kiedis recently underwent surgery to remove a crushed sesamoid bone and correct a detached flexor tendon in his right foot, he is expected to make a full recovery. The 2012 leg of RHCP’s I’m With You Tour has been rescheduled to allow Anthony’s foot to heal.

David Mushegain has been travelling with the Red Hot Chili Peppers on their I’m With You Tour, photographing and interviewing fans for a new book which tells their stories as fans of the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Anthony Kiedis spoke about the book in November, 2011: “A friend of mine had been mixing it up with the crowds of the summer sonic festivals and taking photos of the their fascinating faces. the energy and appearance of these fans made me want to know more about them. who they are, where they come from and what their relationship to the music of our band is all about. So now my friend, David Mushegain is traveling town to town with us while we tour the world to meet, photograph and interview our fans. links will be set up from our various sites if anyone is particularly interested in participating in the making of this book…”

Each room loosely represents the band members’ personalities, so almost all the props and artwork in the rooms came from their personal collections.

See below for Look Around director, Robert Hales’ thoughts on the new music video. Stadium-Arcadium.com also spoke to director of photography, Alejandro Lalinde.

“I can say that the band were great to work with real gentlemen, and it was a genuinely collaborative process,” said Look Around director Robert Hales. “They were all extremely involved creatively.”

All four rooms were filmed simultaneously with four cameras. Instead of having a drawn-out day of shooting, the band completed the video within four whole takes, which Robert Hales said, is “very impressive.” “They had a very clear idea of how they wanted to perform and they nailed it. All in all it was a fantastic experience and I’m very proud of what we created.”
